HSBC Birmingham HQ construction update - August 2017

The construction of the new HSBC headquarters has continued rapidly since my last blog post in January 2017, https://birminghamcentral.blogspot.co.uk/2017/01/hsbc-birmingham-hq-construction-january.html. In May 2017 the building topped out and took on a new name, taking the address 1 Centenary Square, http://arena-central.com/2017/05/topping-out-marks-major-milestone-and-name-change-for-2-arena-central/.

With the building topped out work is continuing on the surrounds and also glazing with this visible facing Alpha Tower.

The glass reinforced concrete cladding used in the design is also visible in a section adjacent to Alpha Tower. The Portland Stone coloured ribbons of the cladding will make the finished design a beautiful addition to Centenary Square.

The glass reinforced concrete cladding has been designed and produced by Yorkshire company GB Architectural Cladding Products, http://www.yorkshirepost.co.uk/news/cladding-experts-given-global-bank-hq-job-1-7635092. The colour has been matched to the Portland Stone of the neighbouring Municipal Bank building and nearby Baskerville House, https://www.constructionnews.co.uk/projects/project-reports/galliford-trys-rapid-design-for-hsbc-office-block/10019168.article
