Home to the dogs

An outline planning application has been submitted for the demolition of  Hall Green Stadium,  2016/01219/PA, and replacement by up to 210 homes.

The famous greyhound stadium is one of four operated by the Greyhound Racing Association (GRA) in the UK, one in London and Manchester and two in Birmingham, Hall Green and Perry Barr.

The York Road stadium opened in 1927 as the first greyhound track in Birmingham and hosted speedway races between 1928 and 1938, and now has a capacity of 2,700 while also housing a snooker club, restaurant and 48-bedroom hotel,  http://www.birminghampost.co.uk/business/commercial-property/crying-shame-hall-green-stadium-10936461.

The famous stadium attracts almost half a million people annually and would continue to run until 2018 unless an earlier break in the tenancy can be agreed by Euro Property Investments and the GRA.

The planning application is an outline meaning the exact details of the number and type of properties would need to be decided in a second planning application.

The image below, reproduced from the Outline Planning Application, shows an idea of what a development replacing the stadium could look like with play area, open space and housing.
