Love Architecture Birmingham

To accompany the national Royal Institute of British Architect's (RIBA) national Love Architecture Festival 21-30 June, Local Architecture Birmingham, now in it's second year in 2013, is running a series of events aimed at engaging people in architecture.

Kerry-Ann O’Neill, President of the Birmingham Architectural Association, said: “The Birmingham Architectural Association is delighted to bring Love Architecture to Birmingham and give anyone the opportunity to get out there, explore and learn something new about our city and architecture in general - whether you are a resident or visitor, it’s all about taking part and having fun at Love Architecture.” Matthew Dobson, Regional Director at RIBA West Midlands said: “We are very pleased to go into the second year of our regional RIBA Love Architecture Festivals and see an exciting variety of events across the entire West Midlands, organised and delivered by our regional members. If you are looking for an exhibition, a walking tour, a film night or some family fun, Love Architecture brings you closer to the places you love wherever you are.”

The Birmingham programme can be accessed here.

One of the events on the programme saw a Birmingham Retrospective Tour on Saturday 22 June, http://www.lovearchitecture.org/event.html?event=722, to accompany Tim Cornbill's Birmingham Retrospective Photography Collection which is being exhibited in the Great Western Arcade.  The tour was a fascinating insight into the lost and the hidden in the changing streets of Birmingham with comparisons of the old and the new.

The works by talented photographer Tim Cornbill show a changing city and one where the past is imbued in the changing space today through street names, the shapes of buildings on former layouts or the remaining historical buildings.

The exhibition at the Great Western Arcade runs until 30 June and is well worth a visit.

The picture below shows part of the exhibition at The Cube which provides a great vantage point to see the changing city.
