Last Dance - for now - Hippodrome stage refurb

The Express and Star newspaper has reported Birmingham Hippodrome closing for big revamp with the theatre to close for four weeks for a £1.1 million stage replacement.

As soon as show Dirty Dancing ended workers were scheduled to start to prepare for the work.  With the theatre closed further work will also take place to reduce the counter space and allow more people to enter and exit the building and the replacement of some seating and carpets.

Rob Macpherson, director of marking and development, said: “By the end of the work we will have a stage fit for the best shows in the world. Who knows what we will find underneath? Perhaps one of Eric Morecambe’s cufflinks.”

Birmingham Royal Ballet takes to the stage on September 26 for Opposites Attract.
