Bramall dome heads towards finale

Work has progressed rapidly on the new Bramall Music Centre at the University of Birmingham since my previous update of December 2011, Dome closes crescent - Bramall Music Building Tops Out, with the exterior almost complete.  With work almost complete and fitting out due to take place the building is due to be handed back to the University from the builders shortly.

The photos below show the new building on 26 February as it nears completion externally.  The lead roof was installed by CEL Ltd who used approximately 25 tonne of sand cast lead for the leadworks for the project

Meanwhile Associated Architects have developed £10.2m plans for the refurbishment of Block C of the Aston Webb buildings for a new Student Hub including a 400 seat lecture theatre, student services and support, employability services and ancillary space.  The plans allow for an open plan workplace with desks for 200 University staff.  The refurbishment which would be completed in 2013 will extend out into the corridor of the main building to create a social learning space and a link to the new Bramall building, http://www.associated-architects.co.uk/projects/education/universities/aston-webb-block-c/
