Giant flatbed trucks carried the 3,800 tonne railway bridge on the Cross City Line into place to allow the new road to pass underneath. The bridge was constructed alongside the existing railway line with that removed on Christmas Day and the ground dug out for the bridge to be driven into place on Boxing Day.

Now the bridge has been installed alongside the new aqueduct for the adjacent canal earth will continue to be dug out to continue the work on the new road.

The new railway bridge can be seen in the pictures below taken on the 28th January 2011.

Running alongside the new rail bridge is a new aqueduct, named Ariel Aqueduct after the former Ariel Factory on Grange Road that produced bicycles, motorcycles and cars until it closed in 1963, which will take up to 50 canal boats a day over the new road.
