June opening for Superhospital

Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham, the city's first new acute hospital for 70 years, will open on the 16 June 2010 replacing the existing Queen Elizabeth and Selly Oak hospitals.

The first completed part of the hospital was handed over on the 15th June two months prior to when the first patients will arrive.

The first completed phase of the new Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham has been handed over to the Trust following a symbolic exchange of contracts with the developers on 15 April 2010.

The documents were signed almost two months to the day that the new £545 million acute hospital admits its first patients.

It means the Trust can now work on fitting out the completed parts of the building to ensure all systems and pieces of equipment are thoroughly tested and ready for use from day one – 16 June. http://www.uhb.nhs.uk/News/2010/04/first-phase-of-new-hospital.html
