Selly Oak New Road - April 2010 Update A

The following update is taken from Birmingham City Council Highways Cabinet Members Brief for the 15th April.

Hospital Link Road Phase 3 – Works commencing 26th October 2009
Update for week commencing – 17th April 2010
The primary purpose of these works is to provide a new high quality access to the New Queen Elizabeth Hospital. The Hospital Link Road 3 will be a public highway connected to the new Selly Oak New Road. The first phase of the hospital is due to open in June 2010 and access will begained along H.L.R 3 and the access junctions A & B on Vincent Drive. Upon completion of the H.L.R 3 works will commence on the permanent junction lay outs at A & B junctions and the down grading of Vincent Drive


Selly Oak New Road Phase 2 – 17th April 2010 till 23rd April 2010

Saturday/ Sunday work
On Saturday 17th April and Sunday 18th April, between 0800hrs and 1600hrs, work will continue on forming the plateau on the Hospital Road side of the railway and sheet piling to the West side, adjacent the canal. A railway possession is planned for Sunday 18th April between 0030hrs and1600hrs. This is to enable the extraction of piles to the South West bank seat and completion of the gantry works at the North East bank seat.

Monday-Friday work
Construction of the plateau for the construction of the new railway bridge will becontinuing on the Hospital Road side of the railway. (Structure 3a).The sinking of the caissons on the Hospital Road side of the railway will be taking place. This is to enable the columns to be built for the new railway bridge. Sheet piling to the existing canal diversion will be taking place. This will enable the new aqueduct to be constructed. (Structure 3b).Construction of the supports to the new aqueduct will be taking place.Formwork, steelfixing and concrete to the insitu part of Structure 5 will be takingplace. This is to enable the new road to cross the Bournbrook. Excavation behind the existing University wall is taking place to enable services to be diverted. Works to widen Edgbaston Park Road will be continuing. A temporary pedestrian diversion will be in place.

From Monday 22nd February, 2010, Arley Road will be closed to enable BT diversion works to take place. Access to frontages will be maintained. Bournbrook Road is closed from 1st September 2009 until the end of February 2011 to vehicular traffic. Pedestrian and cyclist access will be maintained at alltimes and a signed diversion is now in place. The footpath between the Ambulance Station and Bounbrook Road is only available for access to frontages from the Bournbrook Road end.
