London Midland Chases upgrade

London Midland has announced it is investing £2.1 million on the Chase Line improving six railway stations (London Midland’s Chase Line stations set to get £2 million revamp, £2m revamp for six West Midlands rail stations). The investment is part of long held plans, developed in the West Midlands Route Utilisation Strategy, to improve the line which reopened in 1989; Chas(e) ing more trains, Network Rail CP4 Delivery Plan delivering for West Midlands.

London Midland, Network Rail and Centro are investing £1.7m with £400,000 more coming from the the Department for Transport's Access for All Small Schemes programme to provide real time train running information.

Stations that will benefit are Bloxwich, Bloxwich North, Landywood, Cannock, Hednesford and Rugeley Town.

The work, which also includes help points, enhanced lighting, better signage and new ticket machines, is scheduled to begin in the New Year and will take two to three months to complete as part of the National Stations Improvement Programme (NSIP).http://londonmidland.com/news/latest-news/london-midlands-chase-line-stations-set-to-get-2-million-revamp/

London Midland’s commercial director, Alex Hynes, said: “Travelling will be more comfortable for passengers on the Chase Line. This is a big investment in facilities and along with proposed line speed improvements and better connections this is a great example of how working in partnership is boosting travel for rail passengers.”http://www.birminghammail.net/news/top-stories//tm_headline=pound-2m-revamp-for-six-west-midlands-rail-stations-n%26method=full%26objectid=24334966%26siteid=97319-name_page.html

The improvements follow changes to the timetable from December 2008 serving the Chase Line which have increased the number of trains serving the stations to two an hour, New Timetable for Chase Line , and the ambitions to extend the platforms of some Chase Line stations to accommodate longer trains.

Importantly for London Midland will be the ability for passengers to purchase tickets from the stations and so include them in the penalty fare area which will ensure London Midland does not lose revenue from the increased passengers who will benefit from the reinvestment of ticket sales into the London Midland network.
