Open democracy with government funding for Digital Birmingham
publictechnology.net has reported that Digital Birmingham wins funding for digital resources to improve local decision-making after it won a slice of £620,000 funding from the Department for Communities and Local Government aimed at helping pilot schemes which provide information for local citizens.
The project will begin later this month and report back to government in August. Digital Birmingham is an initiative from Birmingham City Council with strategic partnerships of private, voluntary and public organisations aimed at establishing Birmingham as a leading European digital city by 2010.
Focusing on developing an online community that will allow people to influence the planning and delivery of services, the Open City plan is an interactive approach to generating discussion and debate between web users.
