Unsustainable Future?

An analysis by pressure group Forum for the Future has placed Birmingham 18th out of 20 for Britain's most sustainable cities; Birmingham ranked 18th behind Bristol in Britain's most sustainable cities.

The 18th position leaves Birmingham only above Hull and Liverpool on the list which considers air quality, collection of household waste and life expectancy. The position is however an increase on last year's 19th spot, an improvement attributed to an improvement in air quality.

The findings come as a blow to the council, which aims to turn Birmingham into Britain’s “first sustainable UK city” by 2026, with a 60 per cent reduction in CO2 emissions.
