New Fire Station for Staffs, Station Closure for West Mids

The Birmingham Post reported earlier in the month on plans to close four fire stations in Birmingham; LibDems and Tories at odds over Birmingham fire station closures. The plans announced in October have split the Conservative and Lib-Dem Coalition with the announcement to shut Sheldon, Ward End, Billesley and Hay Mills stations and replace them with as-yet unspecified stations in Hall Green, Stechford and Shard End.

Fire Stations in the West Midlands are show on the map below:

Meanwhile across the border in neighbouring Staffordshire, the Fire and Rescue Authority has agreed to appoint Fire Support in it's £46million Private Finance Initiative to rebuild seven fire stations and build three new stations where they have determined there is a need for additional resources.

Cannock Fire Station will benefit from the rebuilding project with the existing fire station built in 1963 replaced and reopening in October 2010. Further details on this project are on Staffordshire Fire and Rescues website :http://www.staffordshirefire.gov.uk/ccm/content/press-releases/2008/november-2008/community-embracing-fire-stations-a-step-closer.en

The newly rebuilt station will be sited on the exisiting site with the design accomodating the stations move to 24/7 service in contrast to it's current day only manning.
